Where to find coupons in Canada?

While we have lots of information on the Savin website about this very subject, it is easily the most common question we get asked. So, we thought why not dedicate a whole post to explaining coupons in Canada? Today we will try and breakdown the entire process of finding coupons, in Canada.

Grocery Stores

In terms of stores, you can find coupons at so many; think your Loblaws banner stores (No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart, etc.), Sobeys, FreshCo, and Walmart (to a lesser extent). We recommend you check once a week, coupons typically come out Tuesday or Wednesday mornings (depending on your area) but you can always ask the store manager for this kind of information.  Coupons can also be found in some unexpected places, like your dentist’s office. Check the waiting room (when you have a dental visit) and you may be surprised to find some!

Strolling through the aisles of grocery stores, most shoppers walk right past tear pad coupons. These are those little sheets of paper you tear off of a stack and what people most commonly think of when they refer to coupons. A popular option and a great way to save money, keep your eyes out for these as you browse through your grocery store.  A little more technologically advanced, some stores also dispense individual coupons from small coupon automated machines, prompted by waving your hand across the sensor in front. These are for a specific product, we think the logic here is to prevent people from grabbing so many at once.

It wasn’t too long ago that many stores had coupon boards, located near the entrance of the store and stacked full of various coupons. Most stores have moved away from this practice but if you’re lucky enough to have them these are such a good option.

When shopping, it’s a good idea to keep your eye out for peelies or hang tag coupons. These are coupons you’ll find on the actual products. And yes, you can remove them; just don’t damage the product you are taking them from.

Mail outs

If you aren’t having any luck finding physical coupons in store, check your mail. Newspaper flyers will occasionally carry these, so don’t throw them straight into the recycling! Check magazines (tip: LCBO magazines will sometimes include coupons). Savin has some great options for mail out coupons. These are provided by companies upon request and a great resource for people who are looking for specific brand savings. So drop your favourite brands a line to tell them what products you love and see if they can offer you any discounts. You can find some suggestions under our main page.

Online

Last, the internet is full on online printable, mail-to-home, and even some digital coupons! Offers can “sell out” fast so print what you need when they are available (and don’t forget to read the fine print). Check out your favourite brand websites often for coupon offerings.  And of course, don’t forget to check the Savin app where we compile these for you so that you don’t have to.

Now that you know where to get coupons you can get started on your grocery saving journey! Don’t forget to add your coupons to your Coupon Library on the Savin app so that we can help you find sales to match these to!
