New to Grocery Savings?

Want to save money on groceries but not sure how? Do you find couponing confusing? You are not alone! Using your first coupon can be scary. Below we explain the differences between offers, and breakdown the entire process for you. Check out our Education tab for more details and answers to the most common questions we hear.

Coupons

Coupons are distributed across Canada in multiple ways; mail, in-store tear pads, online printable, peelies (found on products), in flyers or magazines, and even some digital platforms. Using a coupon will save you money on a specified item. A few things to know about coupons;

  1. Always read the fine print. Here you will find important details on how to redeem your coupon, including any limitations it may have.

  2. Look for expiration dates. This date tells you the last day you can use the coupon in-store.

  3. Identify the unique pin. A unique pin differs from a barcode in the each coupon will have a unique pin associated with it, allowing it to only be used once. Remember, photocopying or reproducing coupons is strictly prohibited.

  4. Look for a Canadian mailing address for redemption. Canadian coupons will have a Canadian address identified, this is where our Canadian retailers mail them back for reimbursement. If your coupon has an American address, it’s likely for use in the US only. Aren’t sure? Email the manufacturer.

  5. Understand the limitations before you use your coupon. If a coupon says not to be used on trial or travel sizes, make sure you understand what those sizes are.

Cashback Offers

Canada has a number of cashback platforms for grocery savings. Here, grocers are skipped entirely! Each week check to see what items are available, then go shopping! Once you’ve purchased the correct item, simply take a photo and upload your receipt! The platform will reimburse you directly.

Depending on what platform you use, make sure you read all of the fine print before purchasing the item. Some will require you to scan a barcode to ensure you are selecting the right product. Popular items go fast, make sure you upload your receipt straight away!

Always refer to the Cashback platform to know limitations and understand terms of use.

Flyers & Price Matching

There are numerous digital flyer platforms available. Use these to find the best price for grocery items each and every week. If your store allows for price-matching, make sure you have your digital copy handy, cashiers will take a look and match that pricing – it’s as easy as that! Note, not all stores price match and those that do may only price match from a select few competitors. Be sure to check with your local store to see what you can do!
