Bonus Redemption Events

A guide to the PC Optimum Points Promotional Event at Shopper’s Drug Mart

For months (or even years) you collect PC Optimum Points.  If you’re a pro at using this loyalty program you stock up on items when they have point’s offers and take advantage of the PC program whenever you can; tracking and saving those points to use them at a later date.  Many Canadian’s opt to use their points to save on every day shopping trips, redeeming 10,000 points to get $10 off.  However, some of the savviest and perhaps the most patient of shoppers hold on to their points, waiting for a Bonus Redemption Event.

Bonus Redemption Events take place a few times per year, exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada.  These events are one of the biggest points promo by the PC Optimum program, offering members even more money off of their purchase than the typical program entitles you to.  Points offers are increased between 30-50%, with three tiers of offers;

  • $65 off your purchase when you redeem 50,000 - 90,000 PC Optimum Points (30% more)

  • $140 off your purchase when you redeem 100,000 – 190,000 PC Optimum Points (40% more)

  • $300 off your purchase when you redeem 200,000 - 500,000 PC Optimum Points (50% more)

Taking advantage of the bonus redemption event is simple and easy! You can make these purchases online and in-store.  Simply spend the minimum amount outlined in a single transaction.  If you’re shopping in store and at checkout let the cashier know you would like to redeem points using their current points promo.  If you’re shopping online you should be promoted to redeem points, simply select the points you want to redeem and the bonus amount should be taken off automatically!

So how much can you save? The goal should be to spend as close to the minimum spend limit, redeem the lowest points offer.  So, if you’ve spent $65 (before tax and in-store coupons & discounts) redeem 50,000 points to get that purchase free (just pay tax)! If you are aiming for a larger purchase and have more points to redeem, the best bang for your buck is easily the spend $300 redeem 200,000 points to get your purchase free (just pay tax!).  Note, taxes are payable on the full transaction amount.

These events are particularly great for big ticket items that many Shoppers Drug Marts carry; from gaming systems to skin care - whatever your preference.

There are exclusions to use.  Points cannot be redeemed for cash. They also can’t be used on purchases of tobacco, lottery tickets, alcohol, gift cards, all prepaid cards, transit/event tickets, post office transactions, passport photos, pharmacy-related transactions, and so on (see the full Terms & Conditions online here).

Now that you know a little bit more about this program you can start planning your purchases and manage your spending goals.  If you’re interested in learning more about the PC Optimum Loyalty Program check out our previous blog post here.
